Schools foundation to raffle BMW

Folks in Sisters will soon have the chance to give local schools a boost - and give their highway cachet a boost at the same time.

Starting April 18 at the Sisters Starry Nights concert, the Sisters Schools Foundation will kick off a raffle for a new BMW Z-3 convertible. For a ticket price of $50 (3/$125) aspiring roadsters have a shot at owning the 1.9 liter, 138 horsepower automobile in Boston metallic green.

"We thought (the raffle prize) has to be a car that people really want, but would never buy for themselves," said foundation treasurer Darren Layne.

Carrera Motors is providing the vehicle, valued at $32,500. A minimum of 900 tickets must be sold; the raffle will be limited to 2,000 entries.

"Your chances are actually better of winning this than winning the lottery," Layne observed.

The drawing is set for July 25; the winner need not be present.

Layne noted that Carrera has agreed to take the vehicle back if the raffle doesn't sell enough tickets, so the foundation has no risk in the fund-raising venture.

Tickets or order forms will be available starting April 18 at Ray's Food Place, Leavitt's Western Wear, Desert Wings Travel Services, Sisters Storage and Rental, Carrera Motors and the school district administration office.Layne noted that all proceeds from the fund-raiser will go to fund school programs. He said that purchasers should check with their tax professional regarding deductibility.
