Sisters students show vocational skills

Two Sisters High School students have qualified for the National VICA Skills USA Championships.

Shelly Craigg took first place in commercial baking and Mandy Dunn won the extemporaneous speaking competition at the Oregon state contest April 24-25.

Both will compete in Kansas City, Missouri, in June.

Other Sisters students who placed in the skills section of the competition were: Mandy Dunn, fourth, commercial baking; Carolyn Franks, sixth; television production, Slater Dixon and Eli Pyke, second; culinary arts, Chris Brown, seventh, Nick Spezza, eighth; job skill demonstration Amber Ginther, second; automotive service technology, Sam Schreiner, third.

Schreiner also won a $6,000 scholarship to the Arizona Automotive Institute.

In the leadership competitions Sisters placed: prepared speech, Slater Dixon, fifth job interview, Carolyn Franks, fifth.

The Quiz Bowl Sisters Tech Team of Sam Schreiner, Tyson Trask, Ricky Sams, Eli Pyke, Slater Dixon and Trevor Barclay placed sixth.

Sisters VICA also received the Superior Chapter Award, the Gold membership award for an over 30 percent membership increase, and the 100 percent membership award.
