News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To the Editor:
Well, goody, goody.
Bet all of the developers and commercial land owners are happy. Sisters is getting a sewer.
Ah, yes. Growth! And development! Powerful words. Truly, the two things that destroyed the American West.
"Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.
Let the demolition and destruction begin!
Cheers.

With the second annual Sisters Starry Nights Concert Series now behind us, I would like to express my appreciation to the many people and businesses whose generous contributions of time, services and support have made the event a success, once again.
The concert series raised close to $40,000 in net proceeds for the Sisters Schools Foundation, and will help fund a wide range of programs and activities for students at Sisters Elementary, Middle and High School.
After the Karla Bonoff-J.D. Souther concert this year, I received a wonderful note from my son's second grade teacher, Kirk Albertson. He compared the beautiful harmonies on stage that night with the harmony he was observing in our community.
Behind the scenes is a group of parents, teachers, students, administrators and other caring individuals whose vision and dedication epitomize this harmonious spirit - the Sisters Starry Nights Planning Committee.
They are: Karl Bittler, Shelley Cristiano, Dennis and Nancy Dempsey, Kim Dunaway, Jackie Erickson, Jody Henderson, Mark Kershner, Jason Lake, Pat Lamoureux, Marsha Marr, Alice McHugh, Rebecca Morton, Joan Orwig, Peggy Parker, Katie Patterson, Matt Poynor, Elizabeth Renner, Steve and Novella Swisher and Traci Tandy.
Special thanks go to co-chair David Banks for sharing his energy and expertise, and to co-chair Susan Arends for being the melody at the center of the harmony.
You have all made Sisters Starry Nights shine brighter!
Sincerely,
Jeri Fouts
Sisters Starry Nights Chairman

Thank you to parents and community members who helped with our second Clean the Green at Sisters Elementary School.
We had a fairly good turnout Saturday, May 16, despite the rain.
We landscaped the new addition and improved a lot of the areas behind the classrooms. Despite the weather, people worked hard and had some fun.
We had Bobcat races, mud hole adventures and a fine barbecue.
It was another wonderful example of community support and teamwork. Our Sisters Elementary Parent Teacher and Community (SPTC) group again coordinated this successful project. The coordinators (Ali Mayea, Deb Sether, Sally Blust, Trish Gillespie, LaCresa Scherrer and Saf Canja) did an awesome job.
We had donations from Bill and Jan Reed, Patti Little, Deb Sether, Ray's Food Place, Ali and Don Mayea (Cloverdale Fence), Gail Jeffers with the new Wildwood Gardens in town, and Cascade Bobcat.
Also thanks to Hoyt's and Dave Gillespie for the trailer and transport of the large rocks from the Gillespies.
Thanks again to so many parents who contributed their time, labor and plants as well.
If you are interested we will have a follow up work party this Thursday, May 28, after school.
Tim Comfort, Sisters Elementary School Principal

We would like to take this chance to thank the all of the wonderful people around Sisters. My wife and I have lived in Sisters for well over 20 years. As some of you may have heard, we will be moving before the end of May. We are leaving the area and moving to Hawaii, something we have talked about for years.
We have worked for Sisters School District for many years, myself, 15 years in the transportation department and Kathy eight years in transportation and as an educational assistant. We have enjoyed working with the staff, children, and parents of Sisters School District. We will truly miss all of the wonderful people.
To all of the students, we will miss you very much, as you are very special to Kathy and myself. Our thanks goes out to all who have played a part in making our stay in Sisters a memorable one.
Thanks again for all the friendship and support we have received while living in Sisters.
Dennis and Kathy Levine
