News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Watershed festival set

Locals and visitors can learn about local history and celebrate the creeks, people, and forests of Sisters at the Sisters Watershed History Fest Saturday, June 27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sisters High School

The event will feature Sisters and Squaw Creek history in photos and stories. Participants can help develop a "Sisters Time Line" along with sharing stories about the area.

The Sisters Watershed includes seven stream basins originating in the glaciers of the Three Sisters mountains and flowing into the Deschutes River. People are encouraged to bring old photographs to complete our community heritage picture. Photographers will be on hand to re-photograph these photos for inclusion in historical archives.

A conservator for the Deschutes County Historical Society will be available to answer questions about how to protect and preserve your historical treasures, including old photos, letters, and textiles. There will be numerous displays highlighting history, watershed ecology and protection, as well as food and entertainment (see schedule).

The Sisters Watershed History Fest is a project sponsored by Central Oregon Community College, Deschutes County Historical Society, Samuel S. Johnson Foundation, Sisters Ranger District, Deschutes Watershed Council, The Nugget, National Forest Foundation, Sisters School District, Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, Deschutes Basin Land Trust, and X-Press Printing.
