News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
White tents, bright balloons and music will signal the start of the 3rd Annual Country Fair at the Sisters Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration on Saturday, August 15.
The church is located an eighth of a mile west of Sisters on Highway 242. Admission is free.
Starting at 11 a.m., pony rides, sheep cart rides, llamas to pet, games to play will
all be provided for the kids' delight.
A wide variety of music will entertain guests throughout the day. The Persuaders will provide rock and roll, nationally renowned fiddlers Rudi and Ned Booher will play, as will folk singer Andy Miller. Phyllis Sokol and Dick Sandvik of the Hoarse Whisperers will play country folk, and the Sweet Adelines will offer the music of the '30's in four-part harmonies.
Chairs will be set up near the verandah for relaxing and listening to the music.
Gift ideas galore are the order of the day for adults. Wild flower seeds, home-made preserves, chocolate-dipped toffee, colorful soaps, all will be beautifully packaged for gift-giving, as well as bird houses designed to attract wrens and bluebirds.
A fully stocked white elephant table will please the collector and bargain hunter.
And who can resist "food at the grill" - Octoberfest dogs, teriyaki chicken, baked potatoes with marvelous toppings and an Oregon specialty, Marionberry cobbler and hot dogs for the kids. And, of course, ice cream treats, including root beer floats.
Don't miss the full-scale Art Show and Sale in the church undercroft, where a juried show provides a showcase for the work of Northwest artists. On Friday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., a wine and hors d'oeuvres preview will be held. Judges of this multi-media show are Paul Bennett and Randy Redfield.
At 3 p.m. the winning raffle tickets will be drawn. Raffle prizes include a fly-fishing kit, a custom-made golf club, a weekend at Black Butte Ranch with two dinners and two
18-hole rounds of golf and a hand-made quilt.
