Church Country Fair draws a crowd

More than 800 fair-goers flocked to the Sisters Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration on Saturday, August 15, to enjoy the third annual Country Fair.

The weather cooled to a delightful 85 and the mountains provided a magnificent backdrop for music, food and shopping. Children enjoyed pony rides, sheep cart rides, games, a story teller and Hobie the Clown.

A full-scale art show, now in its second year, outdid its predecessor by more than tripling sales of work done by local artists. "Best of Show" went to Walter Alexander for his pencil portrait "Girl From Papete." First place awards were given to: Liz Dasch, jewelry; Tom Salgado, photography; Judy Kershaw, oil; Charlotte Milam, mixed media; Carl Buttke, watercolor; Mary Laing, ceramics; and Thomas Chace, acrylics.

The judging was done by Randy Redfield.

Raffle winners included David Ellison, who won a fly-fishing kit; Eric Croll, who won a quilt; the Rt. Reverend William Spoffard, who won a custom handmade golf club; and Marlene Shuey, who won a weekend at Black Butte Ranch.
