News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Eleven Sisters teen-agers were arrested, Monday, August 10, in connection with the destruction of a trailer south of Sisters on Friday, July 31.
Six boys ages 15 to 18 and four girls, all age 15, were arrested for first degree burglary, a Class A felony, and second degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.
Two boys were also cited for unauthorized use of a vehicle in an earlier incident at the trailer. One of those boys was not charged with any other offense.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the youths drove a piece of excavation equipment they found on the property, knocking down several trees.
According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy Allan Borland who investigated the case, the teens were cooperative, and none of the teens were taken into custody. Instead, they were cited and released, Borland said.
"We contacted everybody, everybody admitted their involvement," Borland said.
According to Sisters sheriff's office reports, the youths allegedly entered the trailer, located at a future homesite off Three Creeks Road, kicked in walls and tipped over appliances. They also allegedly ripped out a wood stove and slammed it into the floor.
Borland noted that the arrested teens told investigators that the girls were not involved in the destruction inside the trailer. But police cited the girls for criminal mischief anyway.
"They were there, they knew it was going on and did nothing," Borland said.
According to Borland, some of the teens questioned "said they all thought it was an abandoned trailer" on Forest Service land.
