News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Hundreds of sisters came to Sisters over the October 2-4 weekend to enjoy a weekend of activities, entertainment, warmth and togetherness.
The first Sisters in Sisters Celebration hosted 230 women from all over the country - many of them sisters in the biological sense, many others best friends or "sisters at heart."
The weekend offered plenty of entertainment and activities, from hiking and horseback s riding to shopping and conferences on family issues.
But for event coordinator Adrienne Banks, the highlight was "seeing them hug and laugh and just be together."
The women tapped their toes to the music of Mother Lode on Friday night and enjoyed comedy from Leigh Ann Jasheway on Saturday night. The celebration wrapped up Sunday with "zany sisters awards" overseen by columnist Jann Mitchell.
According to Banks, awards were given to two families of seven sisters for having the most sisters in attendance. Other awards were given for the "longest-held grudge," though Banks was quick to note that "grudges" were "just fun family stuff" like girls stealing their sisters' high heels.
The women who attended the conference praised the event's spirit and organization and organizers rated it a success.
"We'll definitely are going to do it again," Banks said.
