Students entertain at library dinner

Students from Black Butte School sang at the annual Christmas dinner hosted by the Sisters Library last week. Held at St. Edward's Hall, the dinner honored 100 volunteers, Friends of the Library, board members and others.

This year's volunteers included the large group of telephone committee members who helped get out the vote in three library elections in six months.

Their efforts culminated in November's successful election securing stable funding for the Deschutes County Library System, including the Sisters branch.

Cal Allen was singled out for his outstanding efforts as chairman of the telephone "get out the vote" campaign. The former head of the Friends of the Library, Allen thanked all of the many workers who had participated with so many hours of volunteer efforts.

The evening was topped off with a musical program featuring songs and music by Black Butte School students led by music teacher Jeni Foster on guitar. Songs from various world cultures were performed as well as Christmas favorites.

The large audience joined in on the last carol.

Afterwards, the children were enjoyed various dessert treats before returning to Camp Sherman.

After the award ceremony Peg Bermel, Sisters librarian, received a standing ovation for her outstanding leadership in making the Sisters Library an asset for the community.
