Man commits suicide in local woods

David Allen Nolton, 42, of Channel View, Texas, was found dead on Tuesday, March 2, after he apparently hanged himself in the woods near Sisters.

According to Deschutes County Sheriff's Office reports, the incident was reported by a pair of men from Bend who spotted the body along Three Creeks Lake Road near milepost 3 south of town.

Sheriff's deputies, Forest Service law enforcement and Sisters fire district personnel responded to the scene shortly after noon.

According to sheriff's office reports, Nolton was found hanging by the neck from a "rope secured over a pole secured between two trees and fastened to a bayonet driven into the tree."

Deputies reported that evidence at the scene indicated that Nolton had taken his life sometime in the early hours of Tuesday March 2.

Nolton was a sometime auto mechanic, according to sheriff's Sergeant Rich Shawver. Shawver said Nolton had apparently been camping in the area for only a short time.
