News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Two Sisters men were hospitalized after a crash on Highway 126 at Goodrich Road east of town on Friday, April 2.
According to sheriff's office reports, the accident occurred at 7:10 a.m. when William Richard Wood, 72, driving a Ford F-350 pickup truck, failed to slow for a slow vehicle in front of him and rear-ended a Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by James E. Corfield, 64.
A sheriff's deputy reported that sun may have been a factor in the early morning accident. Wood also allegedly said he was distracted by looking at some papers in the cab of his truck before the collision.
The impact of the crash sent Corfield's truck off the north side of the highway and about 70 feet into a field.
Corfield was unconscious at the scene, according to sheriff's office reports. He was airlifted to St. Charles Medical Center. According to a sheriff's deputy, Corfield sustained a head injury, but it was not life-threatening.
Wood was walked to a waiting ambulance suffering chest pain and was taken to St. Charles Medical Center for evaluation, according to sheriff's office reports.
