Larry Starling Dunn posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail while he awaits trial for the alleged attempted murder of his wife. Dunn, formerly a Black Butte Ranch police officer, was arrested at Crooked River Ranch on Saturday, February 13, following an incident in which he allegedly fired seven rounds from a .45 caliber handgun. No one was injured. Dunn, 49, had been a officer at Black Butte Ranch since August 3, 1997. According to Chief Hank Fegette, Dunn has resigned his position.
Dunn was indicted on February 18 on six charges by the Jefferson County Grand Jury, according to District Attorney Peter Deuel: attempted murder; attempted assault 1st degree; unlawful use of a weapon; assault IV; menacing and recklessly endangering.
Bail was set at $100,000. On March 22, Dunn posted the $10,000 bond allowed by Oregon statute for a secured release, according to Deuel.
Under the conditions of his release, Dunn is required to maintain contact with his attorney, have no contact with his victim, may not leave the state without permission of the court, and is not to possess either alcohol or firearms.
A pretrial conference is scheduled for June 14.
If a resolution of the case is not achieved at that time, trial on the charges is scheduled for July 6.
