Drivers survive head--on collision

Three people escaped with broken bones and cuts and bruises from a head--on collision on Highway 20 west of Sisters Thursday, May 13.

According to Oregon State Police reports, the accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m., when Roy Knight, 56, of Bend, attempted to turn his 1976 Plymouth van into the Suttle Lake resort area from the highway.

He collided head--on with a 1992 Honda driven by Milton Serafin, 53, of Dallas, Oregon. The crash destroyed the front end of the Honda and totaled the van.

The Honda's airbag deployed and, according to officers on the scene, probably saved Serafin from much more severe injuries.

Serafin had a broken right ankle.

Knight, the driver of the van, suffered a broken right arm and his passenger, Marsha Knight received cuts and bruises.
