Camp Sherman's Black Butte School held its annual graduation ceremony Friday evening, June 4, on a soft late-spring evening made for celebration.
Parents, grandparents and friends joined in an early evening barbecue on the grass outside the school. Friends exchanged stories of the past year's accomplishments.
A presentation of their award-winning performance was made by the local History Day Competition students Matt Adams, Tiffany Adams, Tyler Hamberger and Emily Sims.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jack Jones was on hand to present student awards to Search and Rescue youth team members Tiffany Adams and Emily Sims. He also gave an award to Jefferson County volunteers of the year Chan and Martha Cathcart.
The festive crowd then moved inside to the school's multipurpose room for the evening's entertainment by students. Students offered several songs in various languages - reflecting this school year's theme of "cultures around the world."
Jeni Foster, the school's music teacher, played guitar during the singing and dancing.
Five students, Mycol Budd, Lauren Clymer, Kelly Lake, Laura Lake and Chris Garciduenas, were graduated from Black Butte School and awarded diplomas.
Elizabeth Dale and Rebecca Lovegren received for student achievements.
Two large graduation cakes topped off the evening's festivities.
