News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Care for your dog, or don't own one

A dog chases and bites a jogger in Sisters. A Rottweiller and a pit bull come off their property and pull a woman's dog through her pasture fence, mauling it badly enough to require veterinary attention.

Dogs bark all night, dogs run loose, dogs are left to twist themselves around posts on short chains, driving themselves -- and everyone within earshot -- crazy.

There seem to be a lot of folks around Sisters who just shouldn't have dogs. Maybe it's too much work, too much responsibility.

If you can't provide a dog with a decent home and treat it like you care about it, why have one? And why should the rest of us have to deal with your inability to control your dog and keep it from running loose all over town?

Neglecting a dog and letting it run at large are against the law, but that's really beside the point.

Either do it right or get a hamster.
