Use of the Camp Sherman Community Hall will be limited to members of the Camp Sherman Community Association (CSCA), at least for the coming year.
CSCA made the decision at its annual meeting Saturday morning, July 3.
Until recently, unaffiliated groups, as well as members of the CSCA, could rent the hall for weddings, wedding receptions, family reunions and retirement parties. The CSCA board and membership decided to limit use for a year and evaluate the new policy at next year's annual meeting.
The decision was prompted by concerns that outside groups sometimes left the hall a mess and neighbors had complained about parking and litter problems.
Commitments for the hall rental, which run through December 31, will be honored.
Recent improvements at the hall include a new 1,000-gallon propane tank, which will help bolster winter uses of the hall as well as serving as preparation for any future emergency needs.
Outside improvements include eight new picnic tables. Five loads of topsoil and 2,500 square feet of sod were used in creating a park-like setting on the hall's south side. This outside improvement was due to a donation by Becky Johnson in memory of Bud and Roblay McMullen who once owned the land on which the Community Hall and adjacent fire hall now reside.
