Hundreds remember Sally Leavitt

Some 250 neighbors and friends gathered at Sisters High School on Monday, July 12, to celebrate the life of Sally Leavitt. She died after a year-long battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 7. She was 45.

Leavitt was remembered for her skill with horses, her contributions to the Sisters business community as co-owner of Leavitt's Western Wear, and, above all, for her courage and passion for life.

Friends recalled the dedication that pushed her to excel as an athlete and remembered her as a stalwart friend. A photographic display in the school lobby offered glimpses of Leavitt in her element - with her horses and her husband, John, in a western setting.

A list of adjectives described her as "classy" and "courageous," which seemed to sum up the recollections of those honoring her.

"Cancer got her body," one friend said. "It never took her heart or her soul."
