Fair pulls record crowds

Fair-goers flocked to the Fourth Annual Country Fair at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration on Saturday, August 14, and enjoyed a day of musical entertainment, food and shopping.

Shoppers went home with everything from hand-crafted birdhouses to preserves and relishes to fresh farm produce.

Face painting, pony rides, sheep cart rides and the miniature donkeys were a big hit with the children.

The art show and sale featured a record number of entries from throughout the Northwest with sales far exceeding prior years, according to fair coordinators.

"Best of Show" was awarded to Sisters artist, Melanie Curry, for her watercolor, "Presto."

Merit awards went to Patricia Lawrence, watercolor; Lee Stone, watercolor; Chris Haug, Raku; Karen Ritchie, photography; and Vernon Smith, oils.

Judges were Pamela Claflin of the Mockingbird Gallery, Bend and Camille Green of Art Adventure Gallery in Madras.

The raffle winners were Laurie Peterson, Black Butte Ranch (custom golf club); Joan Concannon, Beaverton (GI Joe's certificate); Annette Johnson, West Linn (fly fishing kit); Connie Sloan, Tigard (weekend at Black Butte Ranch); Sykes Mitchell, Sisters (handmade quilt) and Annette Johnson, West Linn (American Girl doll).

The funds raised from the fair will go toward the Episcopal church's outreach projects in the Sisters community and future church building expansion.
