To the Editor:

The purpose of this letter is to voice our objections to the rezoning application submitted by the Sisters School District (on approximately 30 acres of land adjacent to the Sisters Industrial Park to the north).

The subject property provides a buffer between the Sisters Industrial Park and several subdivisions to the north, namely, Trapper Point and Crooked Horseshoe. The owner's of these homes chose this area because it would allow them to be fairly close to town and still live in a country atmosphere with peace and tranquillity.

If the property is rezoned, the privacy, peace and tranquillity will be gone.

Sisters already has more traffic problems than can be dealt with. Every day the town is full of cars and trucks going somewhere and on weekends it's almost impossible to pull out of a side street on the main thoroughfare, not to mention parking problems. Between Barclay Meadows (Business Park) and the Sisters School District, they are talking about some 60-plus acres of land to be developed and at the very least a minimum of 200-plus workers driving to and from the workplace.

The rezoning of this property would mean more congestion and cars merging into the already overcrowded streets of Sisters. The traffic impact studies may look good on paper, but if you live here in Sisters you would use that paper to light the fire in your fireplace.

The only people that will benefit from this plan amendment and zone change are the people who presently own the property in question, the real estate developers and those people associated with them.

The residents of Sisters and the surrounding area will be the losers, for they have nothing to gain from this kind of expansion.

Sincerely,

Jerome F. Forster

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Sisters Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration and the Country Fair & Art Show committee, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Sisters community for their overwhelming support of the fair.

We are encouraged by the continued success of this event. This success certainly would not have been possible without the generous help of many Sisters area businesses and the enthusiasm of those who attended the fair.

Thank you.

A Pundit's Last Words - or - Taken from President Warren Beatty's Acceptance Speech:

Clearly, at the end of the day, let me just say, that my sense is, the children of America, the single working moms, the religious right, the special interest groups; gun control, cut taxes, etc. should all be given the litmus test.

Having said that, let me say, it takes a village.

And, in closing, the answer is yes, but I never inhaled and I will restore the White House back to PG-13.
