News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters-area residents raised $10,000 for wetlands restoration projects at a Ducks Unlimited fund-raiser at Cascade Meadow Ranch on August 28.
According to John Daday, one of the event organizers, 95 people attended the banquet.
"It was well attended and everyone enjoyed themselves," he said.
Part of the enjoyment included an auction and a raffle featuring outdoors and hunting-related services and products. Local businesses sponsored the event and donated items for auction and raffle.
Ducks Unlimited is an organization of hunters and conservationists. It raises funds for wetlands restoration and habitat preservation for waterfowl.
According to Daday, the funds raised at the banquet are funneled through the national organization and distributed to the states.
"All most all of it (from the Sisters banquet) will come back to Oregon and be used in various wetland restoration projects," Daday said.
The event was enough of a success to get an active Ducks Unlimited chapter up and running, according to Daday.
"I think it'll be an ongoing event in years to come," he said.
