News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

To the Editor: In Sisters, our children have been taught since kindergarten (and hopefully at home since birth) not to borrow something without asking and not to take something that does not belong to them. Let's not let these important values disappear when they get to middle school.
About 10 days ago my daughter left a pair of black dress shoes in the girls' locker room at the middle school. The next day they were gone. Since they were not in the lost and found, we assume someone decided to take them.
Although she realizes that it was irresponsible of her to leave her things behind, it does not give someone else the right to take them. If your middle school daughter brought home a pair of shoes that you did not buy for her, you might suggest she return them to the middle school office, lost and found, or the girls' locker room.
They were not expensive, but they were special to my daughter and I know she would appreciate having them back. Thank you.

To the Editor:
To Joshua - Since I met you, I've claimed you as a friend and for the last year I've claimed you as my brother. No one can ever count how many memories you've left me with, or measure how much you have changed my life forever.
I will remember you and love you always.

Editor's note: Joshua Hignell, of Sisters, was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 20 on Friday, September 3 (The Nugget, September 8, p. 1).
To the Editor:
The shock of losing our friend Josh Hignell was a little easier to handle with the overwhelming support of his friends in the community.
On behalf of his family and friends I would like to extend my appreciation to those who attended his memorial and expressed to his family how much he will be missed.
I'd also like to reach out my hand to those who felt unable to attend; we could feel your love and prayers - they were greatly needed.
Josh will always have a place in all of our hearts and in that way he will be with us forever.
