Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy Todd Williver was injured Sunday night, November 7, in a collision with a cow on Highway 126 east of Sisters.
According to sheriff's office reports, Deputy Williver was responding as backup on a report of a suicidal person . He was heading westbound with lights and siren from Redmond to Sisters at about 11:30 p.m. when his patrol car struck the black cow in the westbound lane.
A sheriff's office spokesman said the patrol car was probably traveling in excess of 50 miles per hour when the collision occurred.
Both the patrol vehicle and the cow were propelled across the road and struck the east guardrail.
Another deputy helped Williver from the wrecked vehicle and he was taken to Central Oregon District Hospital.
He was later transported to St. Charles Medical Center with a broken arm, facial lacerations and other suspected head injuries.
The cow was dead.
