Sisters deputy recovering after crash

Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy Todd Williver remains in the hospital recovering from serious injuries sustained when his patrol car collided with a cow on Highway 126 on Sunday, November 7.

Deputy Williver sustained skull and facial fractures, facial lacerations and a broken arm in the accident, which occured at about 11:30 p.m. while he was responding to a report of a potentially suicidal person in Sisters.

Deputy Williver was driving at high speed with lights and sirens on when his patrol vehicle struck the cow at about 59th Street on Highway 126 west of Redmond.

The cow, a Hollstein-Angus cross, belonged to a neighboring property owner.

According to sheriff's office reports, the owner contacted the sheriff's office with insurance information.

It was not clear how the cow got out of its fenced enclosure.

Williver was to enter physical rehabilitation at St. Charles Medical Center this week.
