News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Outlaws crushed the Henley Hornets 40-7 on Saturday, November 27, at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, during the second round of the stat 3A playoffs.
The Outlaws racked up 436 total offensive yards, while the defense held Henley to 75 yards on the ground and 26 yards through the air.
Eli Pyke led the Outlaws' steamroller defense with 13 tackles. Jered Coffield dominated at the line of scrimmage with 10 tackles and two sacks.
Ross Hayes came out of the secondary with nine tackles.
An enthusiastic Sisters crowd spurred on the Out-laws' devastating defensive onslaught.
"The crowd and cheerleaders where very helpful with keeping our defense fired up and in the game," said coach Bob Macauley.
Henley could not sustain an offensive drive and only mustered two plays over 20 yards.
"Our guys on the perimeter took away their best plays," Macauley said. "They tried to force it up the middle but our line really stepped up."
The Outlaws running game, spearheaded by Josh Orlando and Jared Merrell, punished the Hornets.
"Orlando and Merrell's running was very physical; it helped keep Henley off balance," Macauley said.
Orlando carried the ball 13 times for 80 yards and was Sisters' leading scorer in the game with three touchdowns. Merrell toted the ball 15 times for 103 yards and one score. Quarterback Dusty Macauley scampered for 22 yards and a touchdown and J.D. Chatelain also scored a touchdown.
Macauley completed 15 of 18 passes for 132 yards. He hooked up with Shane Crowder 10 times for 136 yards but they did not record a score.
Chris Small caught two passes for 55 yards.
The Outlaws' overpowering 40-point attack stunned Henley, who allowed only 54 points all year.
The Outlaws will collide with the Scapoose Indians on Saturday, December 4, in a rematch of last year's semi-final game. Sisters advanced to the championship after drubbing the Indians 22-0.
