News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The heaviest concentration of law enforcement patrols ever to be seen in Deschutes County will be on the road December 31.
The plan to put more deputies on the road was announced in anticipation of an increased number of arrests during turn-of-the- century New Year's Eve celebrations.
In addition to intensi- fied patrol activity by all law enforcement agen- cies, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office will pro- vide a helicopter with a deputy aboard to act as an observer and provide support to all law enforcement agencies.
The unprecedented patrol activity will be managed from the Multi-Agency Command Center in the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office.
The increased patrols promise zero tolerance for driving while intoxicated or for disruptive public events.
Provisions have been made for implementing the offices of the District Attor- ney, the State Courts, and the Adult Jail to accommo- date the timely filing of charges and required court appearan-ces following increased arrest activity.
