Hilary Hedemark successfully defended her title as District Champion in the 200-yard individual medley at the Woodburn Aquatic Center February 11.

Hedemark won the race with a time of 2:22.1, ahead of Jamie Burlison of Cascade.

Hedemark was silver medalist in the 100-yard breaststroke behind Elise Roberts from Cascade. Her finishes qualify her for the state championships at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham February 18 and 19.

Other championship finalists included Chelsea Durdan-Shaw in the 100-yard backstroke and the girls' and boys' "A" relays.

Seeded in third position after prelims, with a season best of 2:13.88, the team of Chelsea Durdan-Shaw, backstroke, Dana Hughie, breaststroke, Hilary Hedemark, butterfly, and Chelsea Meudt, freestyle, swam to another record time of 2:12.7.

However, Philomath "A" also bettered its prelim time, pushing the Outlaws out of medals into fourth place.

Seeded second after preliminaries, the Outlaws girls swam to another best time and new Sisters High School record (1:55.45) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Chelsea Meudt led the team with a 29.49 second leg, followed by Jamie Cundiff, Chelsea Durdan-Shaw and Hilary Hedemark.

In spite of yet another time drop, the team was edged out of medal contention by Stayton and Philomath and finished fourth.

The boys' medley relay team also set a school record.

During championship finals, Eli Pyke led in the backstroke (35.6), Seth Perrine followed with the breaststroke (37.2), Nick Patterson with the butterfly (30.0) and Kevin Carlsmith in the freestyle (27.3.)

The final time of 2:10.13 put the Outlaws in fifth place.

Another school record fell when Patterson, Comfort, Pyke and Carlsmith teamed up in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming to a 1:51.19.

Other consolation finalists included Jamie Cundiff, Chelsea Meudt and Kevin Carlsmith (new school record 2:24.6) in the 200-yard freestyle; Chelsea Durdan-Shaw and Nick Patterson (new school record 25.36) in the 50-yard freestyle; Dana Hughie, Eli Pyke and Kevin Carlsmith in the 100-yard freestyle, Jamie Cundiff and Travis Comfort (new school record 1:32.2) in the 100-yard backstroke and Dana Hughie in the 100-yard breaststroke.
