News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Mike and Bill Reed of Coldwell Banker Reed Bros. Realty accepted honors as Business of the Year from the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce on March 8.
The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce honored Lorri Craig as Sisters' Citizen of the Year at the organization's annual awards and installation dinner at Eagle Crest Resort on Thursday, March 8.
Craig is a past president and founding member of the Community Action Team of Sisters (CATS). In introducing Craig, Bill Willitts (last year's honoree) praised Craig as a "humble... gentle soul" who has remained a buoyant, enthusiastic booster of CATS through the organization's birth and growing pains.
Craig noted that CATS has moved into office space at Cascade Station and is "still here and still doing well."
Reed Brothers Coldwell Banker Realty was named Business of the Year. John Keenan praised Mike and Bill Reed for their extensive civic involvement and active role in the business community.
Keenan noted that the real estate business, which started as the General Land Office in 1974, is the longest-running single-owner business in Sisters.
Sisters Fire Chief Don Rowe handed Greg Brown the "Keys to the City," awarded for his public service both with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office and with the Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire Protection District.
Brown serves as chairman of the district's board of directors.
Rowe praised Brown's vision and credited him with spearheading the mergers between the City of Sisters and local fire districts that created the existing district.
"Through that long-range planning and management, Sisters has an excellent fire department now," Rowe said.
The chamber saluted outgoing board members Bill McConville and Gordon Bowman for their long service, and welcomed new board members Gary Miller and Ed Fitzjarrel. Jack McGilvary won special recognition for his dedication to the chamber and his work in handling the organization's finances.
New chamber President Peter Storton exhorted his colleagues to continue to promote the welfare of the community and increase membership, noting that "the chamber makes possible great public and business forward movement."
