Country Fair will offer family entertainment

What may be the grandest yet of the annual Country Fairs sponsored by Sisters Episcopal Church is scheduled for Saturday, August 11.

According to Ronni Duff and Meredith McKittrick, co-chairs, the event will be highlighted by a day filled with music and entertainment put together by Rodger Gabrielson.

Headlining the festivities will be two members of the Booher Family plus the Hoarse Whisperers (Dick Sandvik and Jim Cornelius).

Topping the raffle prizes is another handmade quilt, currently on display at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Offices where tickets are also being sold.

Jayne Simmons heads this part of the church's fund raising effort to help support community activities. Last year the raffle alone grossed over $4,000.

Among those making "blocks" for the quilt are Edie Larson, Dixie Fairfield, Dell Henrich, Pat Thomas, Corrine Bosworth and Karen Shadley.

The White Elephant booth will be enhanced this year with the addition of "Grandma's Attic." The Sweet Booth will add sundaes to its menu and new things are in store for the food booth and children's activities.

Jan Baldwin and a crew of church cooks have been working for weeks canning such delectables as brandied peach jam, cranberry pear relish, apple ginger marmalade, marinated mushrooms, three-pepper jelly and Oregon strawberry jam.

Those working with Baldwin are Sue Kellogg, Marlene Patton, Georgia Fritz, Jean Engstrom, Lei Durdan, Ruth Goodwin, Geraldine Kavanagh, Edie Larson, Mary Hargreaves, Raydene, Heitzhausen, Mary Fish, Madelin Currie, Patricia Ervin, Barbara Rimmer, Jayne Simmons, Marcia Wood, and Myrtle Ellison.
