Sisters Sheriff's calls

  • A Shih Tzu dog met a bitter end last week, almost certainly at the hands -- paws, rather -- of a hungry cougar. According to a law enforcement technician, drag marks and a substantial amount of blood indicated a cougar kill.

    The Indian Ford Road area west of Sisters is known cougar country.

  • A man reported finding an arrow in his yard.

  • Deputies chased down one of two heelers that escaped from their yard. The other fugitive remains at large.

  • Several shoppers left wallets in stores, which might be taking the imperatives of a tourist economy to an extreme.

  • A law enforcement technician doused a smoldering campfire at Cold Springs Campground.

  • A motorcyclist laid his bike down in an effort to avoid a deer. He was successful and unhurt.

  • A deputy stopped a Bend man who was driving recklessly and arrested him on an outstanding felony warrant for a violation of the man's release agreement. The original charges were being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and criminal trespass.

  • Deputies cleaned up a two-vehicle, non-injury accident at the intersection of Cloverdale Road and Highway 20.

  • Extra patrol was requested near the Locust Street bridge over Squaw Creek where juveniles are allegedly scrawling graffiti and generally being loud and profane.

  • A man wanted his estranged significant other charged with theft for making long-distance calls without permission. The woman said she did, in fact, have permission. The two have a child together and have been separated for nine years.

A deputy told them their "he said, she said" situation is a civil problem.

  • A deputy recovered and destroyed lost traveler's checks.

  • A woman inquired about laws pertaining to playing music on the streets of Sisters. She has a 14-year-old son who is an aspiring busker.

  • A Sisters teen crashed his pick-up truck on Fryrear Road. He walked away unhurt.
