News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
SOAR is planning a celebration for the entire community on Saturday, July 21 at the Sisters Elementary School playground.
"Fun in the Sun, 2001," will coincide with the Phi Slamma Jamma 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament held on the tennis courts. It also complements and Sisters Centennial Celebration.
The event will include 5K and 10K races, a rock climbing wall, children's games and an inflatable bouncing room. Several different local musicians and groups will perform in an all-day jam session.
A puppeteer will also be on stage for an afternoon performance and there will be two Taekwondo demonstrations during the day. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A 4-on-4 grass court volleyball tournament will also be held, available to any type of team, from organized volleyball clubs to neighborhood or co-worker one-time-only teams. Teams must be registered in advance with SOAR.
There will be no admission fee for "Fun in the Sun," but there will be charges for entry in the races and some of the entertainment venues.
Barbecue, drinks and snacks will be available at the site.
Grand prize for the 10K race will be an all-day fly fishing trip with Numb Butt Fly Fishing Company and a set of fly fishing guide books, a total value of $450.
For information or to volunteer a few hours on July 21, call SOAR, 549-2091.
