News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters Centennial Wagon Train pulled out of Prineville right on time last Saturday morning on the first leg of its journey through time.
Scheduled to take a week to get to Sisters via backroads and byways, the wagon train is dedicated to recreating some of the look and feel of life at the turn of the last century.
The route being used roughly parallels the old Santiam Wagon Road which was the super highway of its day, linking farmers and ranchers in the Willamette Valley with the vast grazing lands in central and eastern Oregon.
Participants came from as far away as California, Montana, Washington and Idaho.
Folks in Sisters can catch the Sisters Centennial Wagon Train when it pulls into town Saturday, July 21, at around 11 a.m.
The teamsters will circle the wagons at Creekside City Park at Jefferson and Locust Streets for a picnic lunch and the public is invited to visit with the drivers, outriders, and passengers.
