News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Two of the popular Booher Family members, Meriwyn and Brendon, will share their toe-stomping brand of music at this year's Country Fair on Saturday, August 11, according to Rodger Gabrielson, entertainment chairman.
Also featured on the outdoor stage will be Jim Cornelius and Dick Sandvik, known locally as the Hoarse Whisperers.
Starting the free entertainment at 10:45 a.m. will be Roger MacKenstadt on an electronic piano, playing "oldies but goodies." He will be followed by singer Mark Kershner at 11:45 a.m., offering tunes for all ages from Broadway musicals to pops from the '50s and '60s.
The Boohers will be featured at 12:30 p.m. followed by Daniel Partner telling stories and singing songs of the Civil War era. Partner accompanies himself on an authentic 1847-era banjo. The Hoarse Whispers come on about 1:45 p.m. for an hour to close out the afternoon of the free, all-day, outdoor entertainment.
Lunch will also be served all day. There will be grilled low-fat chicken sausages on a bun with all the trimmings (sauerkraut and relish), Macho Mutt Dogs with mustard, vegetarian chili nachos, chilled fresh fruit bowls and a variety of beverages.
The White Elephant Booth, Grandma's Attic, animal rides and many games for the children, plus face painting, story telling, marionberry cobblers, do-it-your-self sundaes, root beer floats from the Sweet Tooth Booth, cake walks and a host of other activities "guarantee a fun family time for all," said Ronni Duff, fair co-chairman.
Activities actually start Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m. with a wine and cheese preview of the Art Show which also runs all day Saturday concurrent with the fair.
Entertainment will be featured during the evening pre-show. More than 200 paintings, sculptures, collages, and other local pieces of art will be displayed and available for sale at artist direct prices.
The Country Fair is held at the Episcopal Church, 1/4 mile west of Sisters on the McKenzie Highway and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge, parking is free and all proceeds go to the Community Outreach Program benefiting all of Sisters.
