School board trips privately funded

As Sisters School Board members travel around the region looking at school designs, some citizens have expressed concern that taxpayers are funding these trips through bond money.

That is not the case, according to school board chair Heather Wester.

School board members pay their own expenses on such trips, she said. For the trip to Boise, Idaho, Wester said, Bill Reed, who is a private pilot, flew board members in his own plane.

The board has viewed several schools, in Boise, Portland, Vancouver and Bend. Board members met with their architectural design team on Monday, July 30, to begin putting conceptual drawings together.
