Quilt raffled for BBR art funds

Quilters are a creative lot, and a local one came up with an idea to turn a quilt into money for a Black Butte Ranch art program.

"It was Carol's idea," said Judy Jackson. "We were driving home from a meeting and she thought we should make a raffle quilt to raise funds for the Black Butte Ranch (BBR) Art Guild."

Carol is Carol Dye, one of the members of BBR's "Sew and Tell" sewing group.

"The group has been meeting every other Wednesday for years," said Marilyn Handy. "We have all levels of expertise from beginners to very accomplished members. Many of the women have taken classes with Jean Wells (Stitchin' Post owner) and enjoy various aspects of sewing.

"The quilt pattern was chosen by Judy and everybody contributed to working on the project. Colorful fabrics were donated by all of the women," said Marilyn.

The motif is a log cabin design but with a BBR flavor. Its theme is houses, mountains and trees and it's titled "A light in the window." All of the quilt houses have shades of yellow in the windows to represent lights and there's even one log cabin.

The quilt will be raffled off at BBR on Saturday afternoon, September 15, during the weekend's "Art in the Barn" yearly affair.

"Money collected will go into the general fund of the Art Guild and be used to provide scholarships at Sisters High School," said Handy. "We also would like to purchase a new art piece for BBR, probably for the new clubhouse under construction at the Big Meadow golf course."

Visitors can view the quilt at Friday's BBR Art in the Barn wine reception and silent auction (5 to 8 p.m.) or on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chances are $5 and may be purchased at 595-2604 or 595-1954.
