Pancake breakfast benefits New Yorkers

Camp Sherman residents turned out in force for a benefit breakfast.

The small community of Camp Sherman turned out in a big way on Sunday, October 7, to support relief efforts in New York City.

Black Butte School's grades 4-6 and some graduates of the school set up a pancake breakfast at the Community Hall. Parents and students helped serve the delicious meal that included sausage, eggs, juice and coffee besides the pancakes. A flavorful homemade applesauce, prepared by students, highlighted the meal.

Agencies receiving support from the breakfast included the American Red Cross Disaster Fund, New York Firefighters' Fund, Save the Children, Salvation Army and the United Way of New York. The breakfast raised a total of $3,200 for these agencies.

Dennis Tichenor decorated the hall with American flags and vine maple clusters. The entryway into the hall was also decorated in fall fashion. Beth Van Campen and Tonye Phillips had recently painted the kitchen area.

In other Camp Sherman news it was reported that the Chapel in the Pines congregation sent a donation of $3,100 to New York City for the relief effort.
