Deri Frazee serves up a hot one...
For many local folks, a day just wouldn't seem complete without a stop at a Bright Spot Û the coffee stand that is.
Bright Spot has been dispensing coffee drinks, munchies and good cheer at the corner of Main Avenue and Pine Street since last May.
"I've always wanted to own my own business," said Deri Frazee of her enterprise, which employs four people. "I just thought it would be fun."
The biggest fun comes from encounters with customers.
"People in the morning are really happy," Frazee said.
Maybe that's because they are anticipating a Bright Spot Blast, a house specialty breakfast smoothie drink made with bananas, strawberries, granola and soy milk. A drink like that has to set you up for the day.
The stand offers all the standard coffee drinks Û in all their bewildering array.
Frazee insists that keeping all those drinks straight is not as complicated as it seems.
"It's all the same drink," she said. "Just different variations of it."
Frazee named Bright Spot in honor of an antique store her grandmother once owned that carried the same moniker.
Because of her location somewhat off the beaten path, Frazee relies on local traffic.
However, she does get a share of stops from visitors passing through and taking a rest stop on Pine Street.
Frazee offers a punch card special offering a free coffee after 10 purchases Û and a $5 car wash at her father's adjacent facility.
Bright Spot is open from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday; and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
