Outlaws clinch league football title

JD Chatelain was down but not out in Sisters title victory.

The 2001 Outlaws secured their fourth conference title in five years with a muddy 7-6 victory over North Marion Friday night.

The defense lead by Tel White (10 tackles) and Mike Greene (14 tackles) held the Huskies at bay most of the night. The Huskies threatened early in the game and found themselves with a first and goal from the one yard line. Three attempts for the TD were stopped by the Outlaws.

Matt Harp and Ian Brink clogged the middle on the first down. On second Tel White shot through the line and tackled the quarterback and running back to force third down.

Loren Cole and Steve Mills sandwiched the quarterback on third down and the Huskies settled for a field goal attempt. Pressure from the line forced a missed field goal and put the Outlaws back in business on the 20 yard line.

The Outlaws moved the ball the first half but came up short on three trips into the red zone.

The second half proved to be a battle of field position. JD Chatelain recovered a fumble on the Huskies' 30 yard line to stop a drive in the third quarter. Seth Teague intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter that squelched the last serious threat of the evening.

Pat Burke took charge late in the third quarter from his own 11 yard line and completed consecutive passes to Mike Greene (37 yards) and Seth Teague (52 yards) for the score. Burke added the point after touchdown and that proved to be the margin of victory.

The game was turned into a battle of field position and turnovers. The Outlaws forced two turnovers in the game while giving up only one turnover themselves. Both offensive lines had a tough time driving the defenses off the line in the mud.

The Outlaws' line did manage to keep the Huskies' offense on the sidelines for a large portion of the game. Nathan Powell had another good game in the secondary as the defense has become a force in its final games before the playoffs.

The Outlaws will have a bye this week and will return to action with a home game on November 16 or 17. They will play the winner of the Banks vs. Wilsonville game to be played this weekend.
