Hiker still missing on Broken Top

As black clouds descended on Broken Top on Monday, November 12, searchers still had no sign of the whereabouts of Danny Curran, a hiker who was reported missing by his brother on November 9.

According to sheriff's office reports, Curran left his camp at Green Lakes on the afternoon of November 7, intending to hike to the summit of the rugged mountain to the south and east of the Three Sisters.

Curran's brother reported him missing after he failed to return to camp by November 9.

A 30-member search party including Deschutes County Search and Rescue, Deschutes County Sheriff's Posse, Portland Mountain Rescue, Salvation Army and Deschutes Amateur Radio Emergency Services combed the area around and on Broken Top.

The searchers had been unable to discover clues as to Curran's whereabouts at press time.

The effort was impeded by bad weather over the Cascades.

Curran is described as 24 years old, 5-feet-11-inches tall, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is a Pennsylvania resident.

Anyone with information on Curran is encouraged to call the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office at 388-0170.
