New subdivision on line for Sisters

A new 13-lot subdivision will be built east of Sisters Elementary School along Perit Huntington Road.

The Sisters Urban Area Planning Commission approved the subdivision earlier this month, over the objections of some neighbors who argue that 13 lots on 2.33 acres is too dense and out of character with surrounding neighborhoods.

"Thirteen dwellings in a 2.3 acre plot of ground is way too many," one neighbor testified in writing. "And each dwelling will no doubt have several children and dogs. What about our quality of life around here?"

The smallest lot will be 3,370 square feet; the largest 23,327 square feet.

According to city planner Neil Thompson, the higher level of density reflects Sisters' new model code, which sets design standards and allows such things as private lanes, flag lots and urban-type densities.

The new development would not have been possible without a sewer and the new code, Thompson said.
