Mr. SHS Joel Meyer with Jacquelien Mansker.
Joel Meyer was named 2002 Mr. SHS in a pageant held Saturday night at the Sisters High School cafetorium.
The third annual Mr. SHS pageant kicked off the evening with the 12 Mr. SHS contestants performing a choreographed "lip sync" to "Men in Tights."
Committee members Jamie Cundiff and Lexie Comfort acted as hosts for the evening and introduced each contestant.
Pinky Pagano, attendance secretary at Sisters High School, Serena Henderson, cheerleading advisor, Bill Blevins, teacher and girls basketball coach, Gary Cundiff, and Paul Head, 2001 Mr. SHS, served as judges.
For over an hour the audience was held captive by the various talents presented by the contestants. The entertainment varied from golf and mountain bike tricks to stand up comedy to video and power point presentations.
There was also an impersonation of John Travolta, swing dancing and beautiful guitar music.
A Prom Fashion Preview followed. Contestants came on stage in the latest tuxedo fashions, while their escorts modeled a variety of beautiful prom dresses, all generously donated by local businesses for the evening.
While the girls modeled their dresses on stage, the Mr. SHS contestants went down into the audience and presented their mothers with a white rose.
Points were tallied by the judges and their choice was narrowed down to six final contestants. The final six contestants were: Lucas Denzer, Logan Godsiff, Jason Gabbard, Joel Meyer, Brandon Overstreet, and Justin Little.
In the third and final segment of the pageant the six finalists were all asked the same question, "Who is your role model and describe the influence they have had on your life?"
Jamie Cundiff announced the results of the final judging. Brandon Overstreet was second runner up; Justin Little was first runner-up and Joel Meyer was announced as the winner.
"At first I was really nervous," Meyer said. "There was great competition and friendly camaraderie throughout the whole process. We're all close friends."
Proceeds from the pageant -- about $1,000 -- will be donated to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
"It really didn't matter what place I got. I was just glad to be able to be a part of something that helps so many people," said Meyer.
As Mr. SHS, Meyer received prizes to be used for Prom Night. He was awarded an in-store tux from Bend Wedding and Formal, a $25 gift certificate to Honkers and $25 from Nettie's for flowers.
