Scott Schriener throws a bowl.
The third annual Empty Bowls Soup Dinner fund-raiser will be held on Friday, April 19, at 6 p.m. at Sisters High School cafeteria.
Tickets are now on sale at Sisters High School. Contact Pinky Pagano at 549-4045. Adult bowls are $15; child bowls (12 & under) are $10; child (12 & under) with cafeteria bowl $5; children five and under eat free in cafeteria bowl.
All handmade ceramic bowls have been made by Sisters High School art teacher, Mike Baynes and his students as well as donations from local potters.
Students have been throwing and glazing bowls since September. The dinner includes soup, bread, dessert, and coffee/punch -- a simple meal in keeping with the idea of helping the needy.
Along with dinner, entertainment will be provided by Sisters High School students and door prizes will be given away during the evening. Students and staff from Sisters School District have put together theme baskets for a silent auction.
Basket themes include: family game night, at the beach, gardening, cooking, spa time, summer camping, golf, and medical care. All proceeds from the event will benefit Sisters Family Access Network (FAN) Emergency Access Fund to assist local families in need.
Last year's event brought in $3,032 which was used to help local families with medical, dental, vision, gasoline, utility bills, and rent assistance. The Aid Association of Lutherans, (AAL) Branch #9212 has granted FAN an $800 matching grant for the event.
Members of AAL from Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will help with set up and serving guests their dinner. Students from Michelle Herron's Leadership Class helping in organizing the event and students from the culinary arts class will be preparing the food under the guidance of Janice Comfort and Pat Lamoureux. There are only 150 bowl tickets for sale.
