Sisters flag will wave

A large American flag will soon be fluttering at the east portal to Sisters.

Carla Booher was to take delivery on a 35-foot flagpole and an 8-by-12-foot flag on Monday, April 29.

"It's being placed in the 'Welcome to Sisters' area," Booher said.

Booher is still trying to raise the last $500 for the project, which she conceived in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

"Over $1,000 has (already) been raised," she said.

Booher went ahead and ordered the flag from a Texas company because she wanted to get the flag up before Memorial Day. Other flag companies are so heavily back-ordered that they could not deliver until mid- to late-summer.

Booher is also looking for a professional excavator or similarly equipped business in Sisters to donate installation services. Otherwise, she'll have to raise an additional $700 or so to get the flag raised.

Booher decided to launch the fund-raising drive for the flag last October after taking a road trip with her husband Rudi. The couple noticed that every small town they drove through seemed to have an American flag.

They thought Sisters should have one, too.

Donations to the Sisters Memorial Flag Account may be made at Bank of the Cascades, account number 4341511. For information, call Carla Booher at 330-6443.
