News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
For the first time in this stellar season, the Sisters boys varsity baseball team knows the taste of defeat at the hands of a league foe.
On Tuesday, May 7, the Outlaws went to Stayton and lost a heartbreaker by a 4-3 score.
Coach Ray Garrettson was philosophical.
"They're a scrappy team," he said. "We only beat them 3-2 in our yard.
"This was the first time that we got off the bus flat, and not ready to play," he noted. "Normally, when we visit a league team, we jump right on them in the first inning."
Starter Mike Greene got into trouble in the bottom of the first inning when the Eagles put together three runs (one earned) with the help of two errors.
Sisters fought back, and scratched out a run in the top of the fourth, with Nathan Powell driving in Ryan Harper.
The Outlaws drew close in the next inning when Matt Harp doubled home Pat Burke to make it 3-2. Seth Teague stole home in the top the seventh with two outs to tie it.
Greene had settled down and seemed to have things under control, when with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the game about to go into extra innings, the number nine hitter for Stayton lined a double. The game ended two pitches later when the leadoff batter singled home the winning run.
The Outlaws took it out on Cascade on Friday, May 10. They disposed of the Cougars 14-4.
