Outlaws head in to playoffs

The Outlaws baseball team beat Baker 5-3 on Monday, May 20 to advance in the playoffs.

The win came after the Outlaws lost the league title in a ragged performance, and a comeback that re-established the Outlaws' power.

On Tuesday, May 14, the Outlaws traveled to Central to take on the Panthers for the Capital Conference championship.

Both teams entered the contest with 10-1 league records, and Sisters had defeated Central in their previous meeting 5-3.

This time, the hosts exacted their revenge with a 7-0 blanking of the Outlaws.

Mike Greene was the starting pitcher, and ran into trouble in the third inning.

"We had two errors -- we gave them five outs that inning, and they made us pay for it," Coach Ray Garrettson said.

Greene was relieved after surrendering five runs in the disastrous third frame.

Sisters was no-hit by Central's Cody Crockett.

The Outlaws came back with an 18-9 thrashing of 4A Mountain View on Wednesday, May 15.

Garrettson noted, "It's ironic to get no-hit by a 3A school, and then the next day take on the number one pitcher of the team that finished third in the Inter Mountain Conference and score 18 runs with 13 hits.

"It was a productive day, and it gave us a lift going into the playoffs. It was a confidence-builder."

Pat Burke had a monster day at the plate for Sisters.

Burke went a perfect 5-for-5, with four runs scored and seven RBI.

Each of his hits went for extra bases, as he had three doubles and two home runs.

Matt Harp also reached base safely every time he stepped to the plate. He went 3-for-3 with one double, and had two walks and two RBI.

Evan Livsey pitched three innings, but the defense let him down. Livsey allowed seven runs, but none were earned.

Ryan Harper came on in relief and gave up two runs in the fourth, only one of which was earned.

Tel White pitched one shutout inning in the seventh.

"Once we settled in defensively, we played a pretty nice game," said the coach.

The Outlaws ended the season 22-3-1; 10-2 in league.

The second place finish qualified the boys for the playoffs.
