Craft shows seek to incorporate retailers

Local summer craft shows draw plenty of people to Sisters. This year, organizers are encouraging those folks to stroll the streets and visit Sisters retailers.

Annette Hayden, events coordinator for the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, is asking retailers to put some of their wares outside to create a festive, open-air market feel.

"You don't have to reduce prices," Hayden said. "Just put something outside. This is a sidewalk market, not a 'sidewalk sale.'"

The first craft show is set for Saturday, June 1, followed on July 6 and August 3.

"When people come to town, I'd like to see the majority (of retailers) participating," Hayden said.

There is no registration or formal application required. It's just a small step toward expanding the scope of the market events, Hayden said.

"In essence, it makes my events bigger while at the same time it really helps the retailers benefit from our advertising," she said.
