News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
A technician worked on the new ODOT message board last week.
Travelers heading westbound out of Sisters will soon have advance word on pass conditions and other traffic-related news.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has installed a new, permanent message board at the entrance to the state maintenance yards along Highway 20 at the west end of Sisters.
According to ODOT spokesman Dan Knoll, the message board will carry up-to-date information on road construction; mountain pass conditions (particularly in winter); chain requirements and other travel-related news.
The $112,400 message board was funded through the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
A computer activates the sign through a phone line and modem, Knoll said. This allows ODOT Region 4 dispatchers to key in messages from the regional office in Bend.
The sign is part of ODOT's statewide Intelligent Transportation System.
