Outlaw Open raises football funds

Fun and laughter were the order of the day along the fairways at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters on Friday, June 14 during the fifth annual Aspen Lakes Outlaw Open.

The Sisters High School Outlaws football program netted $18,000 from the 120 golfers and their 120 guests.

"The whole event is geared toward having fun," said Coach Bob Macauley, event organizer. "Golfing is really secondary to the whole event. When the golfing is over the fun really starts."

After 18 holes of golf the players and dinner guests gathered in a huge tented area to enjoy tri-tip steak and salmon, complete with all the trimmings, catered by Sykes' Seafood.

The enthusiastic and receptive crowd was entertained by Jody Henderson and the Sisters High School Jazz Ensemble.

The ensemble's efforts for the evening earned them enough money to provide sheet music for the district's music program for next year.

Throughout the evening raffle prizes were humorously presented by Coach Macauley and the football players quickly ran and distributed them amongst the crowd.

According to Macauley, "Wild stories of great shots were full of fun -- and I'm sure mostly founded in fiction!"

The team of Ken Ruettgers, Quay Richardson, Terry Taylor and Mike Hasskamp were the winners for the tournament and were given Outlaw State Championship long sleeve T-shirts.

A dozen Titleist golf balls were awarded to Matt Engstrom and Raydene Heitzhausen for having the ball closest to the pin. Jon Green and Toni Williamson also were given a dozen golf balls for the longest drive.

Richardson won a four-year package of orthodontic work by Dr. Theodore Lynch with a bid of $2,800. A lifetime oil change by Sisters Car Care went to Scott Teeny and Bob Gates with bids of $270 and $225, respectively.

Del Erlandson was high bidder for several items, including a Titleist bag for $260, Pine Meadows Irons and Woods for $185, a sculpture donated by Chris Foster for $170 and a Pine Meadows bag for $70.

Quay Richardson also got a Pine Meadows bag for $80.

Other auctioned items were: Matt Macauley Catering for Fifty -- Multnomah Publishing $700; Ken Reuttger's GamesOver.org NFL tickets -- Kevin Marks $575; Dr. Tom Rheuben DDS (crown work) -- Ed Fitzjarrel $450; Dan Fouts autographed footballs -- Bob Benson and Gilbert Giesler $575.
