News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Some 195 golfers turned out on Saturday, June 22, at Aspen Lakes Golf Course, to raise $20,000 for Doernbecher Children's Hospital, SOAR and other programs benefiting children.
Weather started out picture-perfect before turning blustery and rainy for the Ray's Food Place/ Sisters Kiwanis Commmity Services Foundation's seventh annual golf tournament.
In the past seven years this major fund-raiser has contributed a total of $108,000 to programs benefiting children.
This year players came from as far away as the Oregon coast, Medford, Klamath Falls, and Portland.
"Sisters Kiwanis and Ray's Food Place extends a heart-felt thank you to each and every one who participated," said Kiwanian Bill Duehren. "Sisters Kiwanis also thanks Ray's Food Place employees, Sisters High School Kiwanis Key Club, non-Kiwanian volunteers, Kiwanians and Aspen Lakes Golf Course for making this major event a great success."
This year's winning teams were:
First Flight: Black Butte Ranch (first); Everson/Ebner (second); Frito Lay (third) and Szgetti Construction (fourth).
Second Flight: Nabisco (first); Mount Hood Distributors (second); Bill Westphal (third); and Hoyt's Hardware & Building Supply (fourth).
All participants have received an open invitation to come back to Sisters on July 26, 27 and 28 to participate in the Sisters Kiwanis third annual $1,000,000 Hole-in-One Shoot Out at Aspen Lakes.
Proceeds for the $1,000,000 shootout will be earmarked for the planned Sisters multi-use ball field complex.
The complex will serve Little League; boys, girls and men's softball; boys' and mens' baseball; and boys' and girls' soccer. It is a long term project, but one Kiwanis hope can be constructed one field at a time to begin to alleviate the pressure on existing facilities.
