News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Guts, glory, danger and sacrifice are all in a day's work for children's book character Hank the Cowdog. This Saturday, July 20, Hank will take a day off from his job as Head of Ranch Security to check up on the goings-on here in Sisters.
He will be at Paulina Springs Book Company from 11 a.m to 1 p.m., accompanied by Jim the Singing Cowboy.
Hank the Cowdog is now the hero of 40 books written by John Erickson and is a great favorite of primary school children.
Then, at 6 p.m., Deborah Wood, author of "Top Dogs: Making it to Westminster" will visit the book store.
"Top Dogs" is a funny and informative look at the lives of America's show dogs. Top Dogs delves into the subculture of dog fanciers and follows the money it takes to campaign a dog to the top.
Deborah Wood has written the "Pet Talk" column for The Oregonian for the past four years. The column has won a number of awards including Newspaper Person of the Year by the Dog Writers Association of America.
She is the author of three other books including "The Tao of Bow Wow" and "The Tao of Meow."
Wood will read from her book and answer questions about the book, the dog show scene and anything else on the mind of pet lovers.
Paulina Springs Book Company is located at 252 W. Hood Ave.
