News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
If fire officials decide to evacuate Black Butte Ranch, a reverse 9-1-1 recorded phone message will be sent alerting residents about evacuation plans.
A siren will sound to let people know to evacuate their homes. There will be approximately six hours to evacuate. Evacuation tape should be prominently displayed around the home so that emergency personnel know that no one is home.
If tape is not available a large beach towel or towels should prominently be displayed outside the home.
The Oregon Department of Transportation will close Highway 20 west of BBR. Evacuation will be through the main gate only.
Gil Zaccaro, BBR police chief, asks that everybody be courteous and patient while evacuating. Vehicles will only be allowed to turn right and head towards Bend.
The Red Cross will have emergency shelter set up at Bend High School. There is also the possibility of using Redmond High School as a shelter if needed. People would be diverted at Sisters Highway 126 junction if this becomes necessary.
This evacuation will only be instituted if officials deem the fire a sufficient danger to BBR.
